We have all been taught and nearly everyone believes that the world exists independently of our consciousness. Its independent existence cannot be proven, but the belief in it is so widespread and, indeed, convincing, that virtually no one ever bothers to question it. The infinitely varied appearance of the world is a wonder, no doubt, but it only ever appears within our awareness. So which is more fundamental?
