Ego does not like to be examined - by ourselves or by anyone else. But the true spiritual journey is primarily about examining this identity we call "me." Ramana asks us to inquire: "Who am I?" Ego may like the idea of self-inquiry, but ego certainly doesn't like the actuality of it. If ego feels threatened, it can react. It can blame, lash out, create stories, project its emotions, doubt, withdraw, or argue." These mind attacks can be highly charged and very convincing.
